Subject of the invention are a method and device for detection, supervision and charging of the throughput of commercial traffic on the internet. The network can be a local LAN or any combination of computer network elements, which are used in order to enable the user to connect to the world wide web - the internet. The method and device according to the invention are aimed at identification and managing transmitted commercial content within the target network or partial network. The detection of commercial traffic is achieved by adding new functionality to the existing network elements or by adding a new element called content inspector (110) to the communication network.
