The machine (1) has a workpiece transport device for transporting a workpiece (2) during sewing, and a seam guiding device with a guiding body guided to a guiding link for presetting a weld shape. One of the link and body is rigidly connected to a workpiece supporting plate (3), and the other is rigidly connected to the transport device. The body is traversely displaced between two guiding positions, and is guided into the link for generating two seams in two guiding distances in respective positions, where one of the distances is larger than the other distance.
