Elastic non-woven fabric and method for its production

Water (2) in a container (1) is heated to a first temperature. The container is loaded with a length of fleece (3) material. The material is moved through the water at a first velocity and tensioned in at least one direction. By reduction of the velocity to zero, or by reversal of direction, the width of the material is reduced. Cross-linking, de-aerating and plasticizing agents are mixed with the water. The material is dried on a tenter frame at 140[deg] C whilst maintaining longitudinal stressing on it. It is wound up (8). The fleece produced, is elastic and can be extended in at least one direction by at least 30% of its original extent. The material weight is 40 - 150 g/m 2>. Its ultimate tensile strength is 200 N/5 to 500 N/5. The microfilament size is 0.1 - 0.15 dtex. The microfilaments include polyamide and polyester and arise as a result of splitting bi-component filaments. The flat layer is free of folds and waves. An independent claim IS INCLUDED FOR the fleece produced.
