The invention relates to a procedure for applying pictures, preferably colour pictures, in the surface of a glass article. The pictures are separated by colour to make different templates for different colours, e.g. for silk screen printing, or for another method to apply the colour on the glass. The colours are then fired according to a schedule of temperature sequences, to get the colours melt into the surface of the glass article to solidity on level with that surface.
