PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet-feeding device capable of acquiring information about a sheet, before separating/carrying the sheet loaded on a loading means. SOLUTION: When a start key 404a is pressed down, an area sensor 300 photographs an original located at the top of an original bundle loaded on a loading tray 2, and image information of the original is acquired (S3). In starting a separation operation (S4), when change of the separation speed has not been set by a setting key 404b provided in an operating part 404 before the start key 404a is pressed down, it is determined whether the original to be separated is a color original, on the basis of color information in the acquired image information (S12). When the original to be separated is a monochrome original, the separation speed is set to a normal separation speed V1; and when the original is a color original, the separation speed is set to a low-speed separation speed V2 that is slower than the normal separation speed V1.
