摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internal combustion engine with a cylinder cooling water temperature controller capable of increasing a net thermal efficiency by providing an optimum water temperature distribution for a required wall temperature distribution in the axial direction of a cylinder liner and varying the axial water temperature distribution of the cylinder liner according to a variation in operating conditions of an engine to minimize the cooling loss of the engine in all operating ranges of the engine. SOLUTION: This internal combustion engine formed to lead a cylinder cooling water from a plurality of cooling water inlets formed in a water chamber along the axial direction of a cylinder into the water chamber comprises a target water temperature set means setting target water temperatures for the cooling water inlets at the plurality of cooling water inlets according to the operating conditions of the engine, a target water temperature calculation means calculating target water temperatures at the plurality of cooling water inlets corresponding to the operating condition detected values of the engine based on a target water temperature set means, and a water temperature control means controlling the water temperatures at the cooling water inlets to the target water temperatures based on such water temperature control amounts that the actual water temperatures at the cooling water inlets match the target water temperature calculated values.
