A log-hauling attachment mounted on the rear of a tractor comprises a beam 10, provided with a saddle 12, adapted to engage the upper surface of the log L, and secured to a frame 11 pivoted to the rear of the tractor by an arm 24. An hydraulic ram 20, 21 is pivoted between the arm 24 and the frame 11 and a lifting frame comprising a pair of pivoted links 30, 35 provided with a hook 37 and secured to a rotatable shaft 31 on the tractor, whereby when the hook 37 engages a pin 38 on the frame 11, the frame is prevented from swinging laterally and may be held in a raised position, Fig. 2 (not shown). In operation, the beam 10 is placed on the log L, which is then secured to it by a cable 16 and winch 15, and the ram 20, 21 is then extended to raise the end of the log to a hauling position, Fig. 4. A ratchet mechanism controlled by a lever 40 is mounted on one of the links 30 whereby the links 30, 35 after lowering the beam 10 to the ground, are locked in the inline position so that they cannot pivot again to bring the hook 37 into engagement with the pin 38. In a second embodiment, Figs. 6-8 (not shown), the attachment is mounted on a turntable and the rope 16 and winch 15 may be replaced by a pair of pivoted clamping arms (not shown). In a further embodiment, Figs. 9, 10 (not shown), the attachment is mounted on a king post supported by the tractor and the links 30, 35 are replaced by an hydraulic ram pivoted between the arm 24 and the top of the king post. It is stated in the Provisional Specification that the trailing end of the log may be supported on a pair of wheels on an axle provided with lifting means.
