PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for simply producing a functional particle powder having various functional groups, such as a sulfonic acid group and an ammonium group, at a low cost. SOLUTION: This method comprises bringing a particle powder becoming nuclei into contact with a polymerizable monomer, by stirring the powder and spraying the monomer, etc., so as to make the nuclear particles adsorb the monomer, and then polymerizing the polymerizable monomer. Effective adsorption is carried out by using particles which are not subjected to surface treatment, etc., when a compound having a highly hydrophilic functional group, such as the sulfonic acid group and the ammonium group, is used as the polymerizable monomer. The effective adsorption is, on the contrary, carried out by using particles which are treated with a cyclic siloxane, etc., to be hydrophobized, when a highly hydrophobic polymerizable monomer, such as styrene, is used. Further, the objective functional group is preferably introduced into the polymerizable monomer according to a method for producing an ion exchange resin (for example, a monomer is sulfonated by sulfur trioxide, when styrene is used as a raw material), when the polymerizable monomer used as a raw material does not have the functional group.
