A broadcasting program guide device produced at low cost and installed simply serves as a terminal of an EPG system for distributing program information through a network. The broadcasting program guide device comprises an STB (set top box) that can be placed on a TV receiver (TV). The device includes therein an infrared receiving unit (12) for receiving an operation command from a remote controller, an infrared transmitting unit (14) for transmitting a command for reception or recording to the TV or a VTR, an image output circuit (16) for generating a display signal for program guide and outputting it to the TV (or VTR), and a PHS unit (18) connected to a server on the Internet through a PHS communication network. The STB acquires EPG data from an EPG server through the PHS communication network and displays an EPG image. When the user inputs a command to receive or record a specific program on the EPG image, the TV or VTR receives or records the program automatically. |
