PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a solid-state image pickup device, which is free of the occurrence of horizontal line, even at progress operation using an MFIT type CCD. SOLUTION: At reading of odd numbered pixels from the photodiodes P71, P72, P73, etc., of a PD group 61, a voltage VM is applied as shown in a state figure in a period t1, the gates ofϕV2,ϕV1 of a VCC 62 are turned into on state and the gates ofϕV4,ϕV3 are turned into off state. By adding the pulse of voltage VH to the gate ofϕV1, a signal electric charge is transferred to the VCCD 62 from the PD group 61. Vertical transfer in the VCCD 62 is executed, by repeating the state of periods t2 and t3. At the time of reading even pixels, the gates ofϕV4,ϕV3 are turned into on state, and the gates ofϕV2,ϕV1 are turned into off state.
