PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably execute the image recording regardless of a thickness of a sheet by independently determining a permissible range of a thickness of a sheet to be fed with respect to a plurality of feeding means, and comprising a thickness detecting means for detecting a thickness of a sheet, at an upstream side of a sheet conveying passage of each feeding means. SOLUTION: In the image recording, a sheet P is inserted from a supply port 21, a point of the sheet is collided with a nip of a feeding roller 22, and a feeding roller 11 is forwardly driven by a feeding motor 60 when a feeding sensor 27 is switched ON. After the lapse of a predetermined time, a thickness of the sheet is detected by a thickness detecting sensor 26 to determine a correction value Vα. Then a feeding clutch 22a is switched ON to start the driving of the feeding roller 22, and the thickness detecting sensor 26 is operated again immediately after the start of the driving of the feeding roller to determine an output value Vx. Then the sheet thickness Tx is calculated on the basis of the data values Vα, Vx and the like, and the output value Vx is fed back to a feeding motor control means when the sheet thickness Tx is within a permissible range to adjust a feeding amount.
