PURPOSE: To provide an information recording medium and an information recorder capable of recording in a high density, accurately reproducing, and recording and reproducing any number of times. CONSTITUTION: An SiO2 having lower thermal conductivity than that of a columnar crystal 2 exists in a grain boundary phase 3 of the crystal 2 in a Co-Si oxide thin film 1. Accordingly, a heat transfer from the crystal 2 to another columnar crystal 2 is shut off. Since the phase 3 isolates the respective crystals 2 from each other, a crystal structure of the crystal is not affected by that of the adjacent crystals 2. Therefore, no phase change occurs except the crystal 2 in which an energy effective for the phase change is given directly from a laser beam. Since the other crystal 2 is not affected even if there is the crystal 2 overheated by the beam, a recording pit having a smaller mark length than a diameter of the beam can be accurately formed.
