The slat 1 is characterized in that it has, at least on its upper surface, a sheet 2 formed of hollow microcells which contain inside a high percentage of air and the walls of which are impermeable, flexible, elastic and non- slip. The sheet 2 structure constitutes a means of energy absorption, providing damping of vibrations and acoustic insulation which prevents the slats from generating noise. It is also resistant to water and to chemicals and offers a degree of resistance to sliding of the mattress. <IMAGE>
