PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backlight device which is capable of making the luminance of the backlight for irradiating a rectangular liquid crystal display unit higher by using a fluorescent tube and the intra-surface uniformity thereof better. SOLUTION: This backlight device is a backlight device which has a rectilinear light source 30 disposed on the rear surface of a transmission type the liquid crystal display unit and makes liquid crystal display by utilizing this rectilinear light source 30. At this time, the rectilinear light source 30 is disposed below the liquid crystal display unit by approximately aligning the longitudinal direction of the rectilinear light source 30 and the diagonal line of the liquid crystal display unit. |
