PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the efficiency of discrimination between flames and another infrared energy radiator, especially the efficiency of discrimination between the infrared energy variation of flames and that of another similar infrared energy radiator. SOLUTION: This flame detector is provided with a detection element 10 for converting infrared energy into an electric signal, a 1st extraction means 13 for extracting a signal in a 1st prescribed frequency area including the fluctuation frequency of infrared energy of flames from an output signal outputted from the element 10, a 2nd extraction means 14 for extracting a signal in a 2nd prescribed frequency area including frequency higher than the 1st prescribed frequency area without including the fluctuation frequency of infrared energy of flames from the output signal of the element 10, and a judging means 15 for judging whether a fire occurs or not based on both output signals outputted from the 1st and 2nd extraction means 13, 14. Consequently the accuracy of judgement can be improved as compared with judgement based only on a single frequency component used for conventional technology.
