PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject composition useful in a wide field of agriculture, fishery, food industry and environmental sterilization by including iodine monochloride and nitric acid. SOLUTION: This composition comprises 1-20wt.% of iodine monochloride, 5-50wt.% of nitric acid and about 0.5-5mol based on 1mol of iodine atom of one or more alkali metal chlorides (sodium chloride or potassium chloride) or an inorganic acid (hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, etc.). The iodine monochloride is prepared by suspending a fixed amount of iodine in an aqueous solution of an alkali metal chloride or an acid into a suspended state and then introducing chorine to the suspension. The composition is stable for a long period of time even if the effective iodine concentration is low and an iodine source is effectively usable. The composition is improved in corrosion for an apparatus material such as stainless steel for a food plant. The composition has no foaming properties and it can be excellently incorporated into an automatically cleaning system for a large-sized tank. |
