The gauge includes a float (1), a belt drum (6), drive (7) and auxiliary (8) motors. The float is positioned in a tank between two vertical guides (2). The belt-drum is connected to the float by a perforated measuring-belt (3). The belt is fed onto and off the drum by a cogged roller (4) through a band regulator (5). The drum is connected mechanically to the drive and auxiliary motors which determine the belt tension. The band regulator stands on a baseplate (12) and is provided with feed rollers (10,13) and brake pads (11,14). The brake is controlled by a spring-loaded lever (9,15) hinged to the baseplate. The lever travel is at most 0.3.
