<p>PVC or other chlorinated polymers are heated in air or oxygen in the presence of, or with the later addition of, a metal or metal compound which forms a stable chloride. In particular the PVC is burnt together with iron contaminated with Zn, Pb and/or Cd (eg electric arc furnace dust) to give iron oxide and volatile chlorides of the contaminant metals.</p> |
