There is disclosed a system for removing froth at the surface of the water in a decantation basin of a water-treatment plant. One end of the basin is formed with a froth-collecting trough having an operative wall of which the top includes a froth landing ramp positioned to extend above and below the water surface in the basin so that the froth may be pushed over it and into the trough. A heating chamber is formed above the trough with a vertical opening which is closed by a flexible or rigid skirt extending down to the ramp, the skirt being free of the ramp and being able to yield to pressure from froth moving on the ramp to allow the said froth to enter into the chamber and be dropped into the trough. A radiant heating installation is provided in the chamber to heat the froth that accumulates on the ramp, to prevent it from freezing. |
