PURPOSE: To incorporate improved polydextrose into food and to obtain polydextrose-contg. low calorie confectionery ensuring uniform dissolution in the mouth by aggregating polydextrose powder into granules having remarkably improved processability. CONSTITUTION: Polydextrose powder is brought into tight contact with a bonding soln. selected from among a sorbitol soln., an alginate soln. and a mixture of them for a sufficiently long time to aggregate and granulate the powder, compressed tablets are formed from the resultant granules and low calorie confectionery is produced. The bonding soln. may be sprayed on the polydextrose powder or a uniform mixture of the powder with an extending agent under conditions in aggregation in a fluidized bed. The particle size of the polydextrose is increased and the objective compressed tablets for confectionery having high flowability and remarkably improved compressibility is obtd.
