<p>A process for the preparation of a derivative of cellulose and formic acid comprising reacting a cellulose-containing material with formic acid in the presence of an organic solvent and a catalyst. The organic solvent is preferably methylene chloride. The catalyst is preferably sulphuric acid. The resulting cellulose derivative may be used in the production of cellulose products, especially cellulose fibres.</p> |
