A shadow mask frame for a colour image tube in which the side walls of the shadow mask frame are cut out to form cut-out sections, leaving only a number of bridging parts, and in which separate supports for the frame have been provided, in direct contact with the shadow mask. Using the shadow mask frame of the present invention, the period of equalisation or period of deviation from purity, from the start of operation of the colour image tube until the stabilization of the images on the screen will be very short. <IMAGE>
