PURPOSE:To obtain a recorder for performing multi-valued printing through secure inputting of an analog signal as a multi-valued signal by providing a means for inputting a multi-valued image signal as an analog signal and a means for A/D conversion of the analog signal, and performing intermediate tone printing based on the signal obtained upon the A/D conversion. CONSTITUTION:A data generating means 31 in a printer controller 200 outputs 8-bit parallel data for one main scanning line to a D/A converter 32 together with a transfer clock signal VCLK. The D/A converter 32 outputs an analog signal AVDO which varies between 0 V and +Vo. A printer engine 100 has an A/D converter 30, to which the analog signal AVDO and the transfer clock signal VCLK are inputted, and 8-bit data obtained upon A/D conversion is subjected to characteristic correction by a D/D converting circuit 25, before being inputted to a signal processing circuit 29. The circuit 29 outputs a pulse width modulation signal PW corresponding to the parallel data with the clock VCLK as a unit. A laser driver 27 drives a laser 28 according to the pulse width modulation signal PW, whereby a photosensitive drum is exposed imagewise, and after a predetermined process, an intermediate tone image is printed on a paper. |
