PURPOSE:To obtain an optical attenuator which is simple, small and inexpensive by placing optical fibers which make a pair on a common optical axis so as to face each other, inserting a flat plate consisting of a transparent material between the fibers and making the flat plate tiltable with respect to the optical axis. CONSTITUTION:Optical fibers 1 and 1' which are paired are placed on a common optical axis 6 so as to face each other apart at a prescribed space D. A transparent flat plate, for example, a glass plate 5 through which an optical axis 6 passes is provided rotatably around an axis 7 of rotation in the space D. When the plane of the plate 5 is inclined from the position perpendicular to the optical axis, the light beam moves parallel and the part where a power distribution is weak enters the optical fiber, thereby attenuating the light input. The device which is small and simple is thus constituted and the cost is reduced. |
