Welding technique employing filler feed

The invention relates to a welding technique, in particular a TIG technique, in which an arc is struck between an electrode and the workpiece and the filler is separately fed to the welding point. The filler used is in the form of small spheres having a diameter ranging from about 1.5 mm to a maximum of 3 to 5 mm. The small spheres are individually fed to the welding point at a rate which is, for instance, a function of the electrode pass speed. The apparatus for carrying out this technique comprises an electrode holding and passing device with a small tube for feeding the filler.
