PURPOSE:To obtain a general purpose keyboard, by previously storing desired characters and symbol code data in an ROM, and easily modifying characters of keys and symbol code display. CONSTITUTION:In an ROM8, data on desired characters and symbol codes are stored previously, and a microprocessor 11 is put in operation at need. While the symbol code data are read out by signal pulses 10, a liquid-crystal display part 6 is driven on the basis of the data to display the symbol codes on the liquid crystal. In this case, the symbol codes displayed on the liquid crystal are held by a refreshing circuit 9 at a tens Hz frequency. The microprocessor 11 sends out data on a character corresponding to prescribed key operation to a host computer 13 through a memory buffer 7, and also drives the display part 6 on the basis of the character and symbol code data sent from the computer 13 to display the symbol codes on the liquid crystal. |
