<p>Mechanical shears for wires and wire rods, specially in combination with wire forming presses, consist of a reciprocating cutter slide with a blade which acts against as holder-on. The latter consists of a lever, hinged to the slide, which is preloaded by a spring and is controlled in its motion by a toggle lever and a dam mechanism. This cuts cold or hot material in a clean and square cut at the high speeds used for modern wire forming presses. The drive of the shears is relieved of the holder-on reaction force.</p> |
