1,126,468. Turbine casings. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Sept. 24, 1965 [Sept. 25, 1964], No.39144/64. Heading F1T. In a gas turbine having two oppositelyarranged inlets 19 of oblong cross-section, a sheet-metal liner 22 forming an annular inlet chamber 23 is connected to outer casing 17, in a manner permitting relative radial thermal expansion, by an annular series of flexible straps 25 welded to the liner and to a ring 28 bolted to a securing ring 41. Additionally, the liner is welded to a frusto-conical member 32 welded to an H-section sealing ring 34 which in turn is welded to an annular series of straps 35, the upstream ends of which are welded to a frustoconical member 36 having its downstream end 38 bolted or otherwise secured to stationary structure 15. The liner 22 with member 32, the straps 35, and the member 36 are respectively of materials having relatively high, intermediate and low coefficients of thermal expansion, e.g. austenitic steel, nickel-chrome alloy and ferritic steel respectively. The pressure containing members, e.g. the outer casing 17, maybe lined with thermally-insulating material. |
