<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which inhibits operation of a developing means, corresponding to a certain color, when image data is monochrome so as to rapidly and accurately restrain deterioration and consumption of developer of that color, and to provide an image forming system, a recording medium and a method for controlling the image forming apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: Even when monochrome printing is not designated (S6:N), when it is decided that printing data is monochrome data after finishing printing (S16:Y), the file name and the file-updating date of the printing data are registered as printing information (S17). When the file name and the file-updating date of the printing data newly received have been already registered in the printing information (S7:Y), printing is performed, by setting a photoreceptor drum to monochrome (S21 to S24). Namely, printing is performed, in such a state that photoreceptor drums for yellow, magenta and cyan are separated from a paper transport belt.
