<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flow control method and system wherein data transmission from a transmitter side is stopped or limited by an instruction from a receiver side without the need for providing a dedicated signal line, in flow control between the transmitter side and the receiver side based on a credit. <P>SOLUTION: The receiver side 302 informs the transmitter side 301 about a credit with a negative value in order to stop the data transmission from the transmitter side 301. Since the value of transmittable credit stored in a transmittable credit calculation storage circuit 305 of the transmitter side 301 receiving the credit with the negative value is decreased and typically reaches zero, the data transmission is suppressed.
