PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a fluorine-containing copolymer which, when used for a lithium battery as a polymer electrolyte or a binder, shows an excellent solvent retaining property, is highly ion conductive, and has excellent stability.SOLUTION: Provided is a method for producing a fluorine-containing copolymer comprising a polymerization unit based on a fluorine-containing ethylenic monomer and a polymerization unit having a -SOLi group as a side chain. The method includes a step of radical polymerizing a fluorine-containing ethylenic monomer and a comonomer having a -SOLi group in an aqueous medium to obtain the fluorine-containing copolymer.
