A curve profile of a value of a rotational speed of a crankshaft of the internal combustion engine for each combustion chamber within a preset time period is determined. The respective profiles are compared with a preset reference profile to determine a deviation between the respective power output of the internal spaces of a given power output. The determined differential and/or integral of the profile within the preset time period is compared with a differential and/or integral of the preset reference curve.
