摘要 PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for predicting pinhole defect of a solidification shell in a continuous casting process are provided to estimate the probability of pinholes using a gas generation index obtained from the properties of mold powder and casting speed and thus to properly change casting conditions or methods. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for predicting pinhole defect of a solidification shell in a continuous casting process comprises a memory(110) which stores work parameter data about the properties of mold powder according to steel type and casting speed, which are input from outside, and a control unit(190) which calculates a gas generation index using an element among the powder properties, capable of generating gas through combustion, and casting speed stored in the memory and predicts the probability of pinholes in a solidification shell using the calculated gas generation index.
