PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device for an internal combustion engine controlling an amount of soot discharged from a combustion chamber to a proper value, by using an in-cylinder soot concentration sensor.
SOLUTION: In this device, a peak value Y and a final value X are specified from history of in-cylinder soot concentration which is detected by the in-cylinder concentration sensor and is stored. When a value X/Y indicating a characteristic of a change pattern of the in-cylinder soot concentration is smaller than a final value/maximum value (=XTA/YTA) corresponding to a stationary adaptive pattern, it is determined that soot-generating reaction is excessive, so that a pilot interval is elongated to suppress the Soot-generation reaction. On the other hand, the value X/Y is larger than the value XTA/YTA, it is determined that oxidation reaction of the soot is insufficient, so that an EGR rate is reduced to promote the oxidation reaction of the soot. Therefore, even in a transient operation state, the change pattern of the in-cylinder concentration can be immediately adjusted to come close to the steady adaptive pattern.
COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
