Device for cleaning a welding torch

The invention relates to a device for cleaning a welding torch, in particular the torch of a welding robot. The cleaning device comprises a rotating hollow-cylindrical tool that can be driven into the gap formed on the welding torch between its contact nozzle and gas nozzle. In order to absorb the reaction forces occurring on the welding torch during the cleaning process and thus to keep the hand or robot mechanism holding the torch free from such reaction forces, and also to be able to execute the cleaning procedure as a tolerance-accurate treatment process excluding contamination or wear of the torch, the cleaning device includes a holding device fixing the welding torch in an axial and rotationally secure manner in coaxial alignment with respect to the tool, and a feed device for introducing, with an adjustable lifting rate, the rotating tool into the fixed welding torch. The functions of feed device and holding device can be controlled in a preset and time-table dependent manner, and can be reversed automatically. The tool is preferably designed as a profiling cutter provided externally and internally with cutting surfaces and thereby being able to treat the outer surface of the contact nozzle and the inner surface of the gas nozzle independently in each case.
