PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple input procedure by reducing visual point movement between a screen and a key and key operations in the case of erroneously inputting alphabetic characters in a portable terminal device. SOLUTION: When a character compilation menu is selected, and a character compilation status is set, character input processing is called. For example, it is assumed that a user depresses a character key "5" by mistake although the user wants to input an alphabetic character "n" assigned to a character key "6". For example, a ring extension key is assigned to a "#" key or the like, and when the user depresses the ring extension key after the operation of, for example, j, k, and l at the point of time of noticing his or her erroneous operation, the ring-shaped transition of JKLJKL and so on assigned to the character key of "5" is extended to "M" assigned to the next character key "6" after the decision result of a step S31, and "m" is displayed at a display part.
