The predominately (R)-(+) isomer of 1-alkyn-3-ol compounds of the formula:
where R 1 is a saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon group containing from 1 to about 12 carbon atoms, and R 2 is hydrogen, are most effective attractants for mosquitoes.
