<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent musically unnatural playing from being performed when a way of playing is specified. <P>SOLUTION: The information to instruct the way of playing to be added to each musical tone is acquired. On the basis of playing event information, the musical tone to be added with the way of playing instructed by the acquired information is detected and the pitch of the detected musical tone is acquired. The range-of-tone limit range corresponding to the way of playing instructed by the acquired information and the pitch of the acquired musical tone are compared and whether or not the way of playing is applicable is decided. The way of playing ought to be added to the detected musical tone is decided according to the applicability or not. The range-of-tone limit range is set for every way of playing by a conditions setting means. Thus, when the way of playing to be added is specified, the way of playing ought to be added is determined according to whether or not the way of playing is applicable.
