PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a material for a light emitting device which makes possible the manufacture of a light emitting device which can be driven at a low voltage and consumes small power, and to provide a light emitting device using the same. SOLUTION: The material for the light emitting device contains a phosphine oxide compound, and an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal. The light emitting device uses this material.
