<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a hepatocyte growth promoter having high growth promotion action on hepatocyte, effective as a therapeutic medicine for liver diseases and effective for promotion of regeneration of liver damaged by a liver disease and regeneration, or the like, of liver after liver transplantation from a living donor, and a therapeutic medicine for liver diseases comprising the promoter as an essential component. <P>SOLUTION: The hepatocyte growth promoter is represented by formula (1) (wherein R<SB>1</SB>is hydrogen atom and R<SB>2</SB>is methyl group).
