<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process cartridge in which a developing sleeve is prevented from being flawed by mistake to lower image quality, and also to provide an image forming apparatus which uses the cartridge. <P>SOLUTION: The process cartridge has:, as a representative constitution, a first unit equipped with an image carrier carrying an electrostatic latent image, a second unit equipped with a developer carrier for developing the electrostatic latent image on the image carrier, and a protection member for protecting the image carrier while the first and second units are coupled with each other; and is detachably loaded in an image forming apparatus.
