The invention relates to the process and to the device for combined afterburning and denitrification of diesel exhaust gases in a catalyst, the absorption of soot and of the condensable substances, contained in the exhaust gas, in a special absorber by a scrubbing fluid and, in a separate circulation, the purification of the external air by removal of odorous and harmful substances in an impregnated honeycomb body for the driver's cabin. The condensable substances from the diesel exhaust gas and the odorous and harmful substances from the fresh air dissolve in the glycerol-like scrubbing fluid. The diesel soot is compacted and suspended in this fluid. In a separate circulation, the substances dissolved in the glycerol-like fluid are stripped out with air which is then fed as combustion air to the engine.
