PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an original reader that can obtain high read accuracy by stably supporting a face of original during reading of the original. SOLUTION: The original reader is provided with an original read section 2, main rollers 3, a guide member 5 that is placed to an original carrying path 1 to guide the original P to the original read section 2, sub rollers 6 that are placed at a downstream of the original read section 2 to carry the original P passing through the original read section 2 toward a discharge side in the original carrying direction, and an original discharge guide 7 to guide the original P discharged from the sub rollers 6 toward the discharge side. The original discharge guide 7 is placed at a downstream side from the original read section 2 in the original carrying direction, and a tip 72 of an original abutting section 71 is placed at a position offset from a straight line B tying the read position 23 of the original read section 2 and an original contact position 63 of the sub rollers 6.
