PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low friction material to combine lowness of a friction factor under non-lubrication with lowness of a friction factor under lubrication, and to provide a manufacturing method of the low friction friction material. SOLUTION: By removing a part of a carbon film 3 after the carbon film 3 is formed on the surface of an iron base material 2, or by forming the carbon film 3 in a state that a masking is previously applied on the surface of the base material 2, the base material 2 is exposed from a friction surface togetherwith the carbon 3.
