PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a treating agent which is used for acidic hair dyes and can improve the dyeability, migration resistance and hair washing fastness of the acidic hair dyes, and to provide a method for dyeing hair therewith. SOLUTION: This treating agent for acidic hair dyes is used before or after hair is dyed with an acidic hair dye containing an acidic dye. The treating agent for acidic hair dyes has a pH value of 2.0-6.0, and is an aqueous solution containing at least one organic acid or inorganic acid in an amount of >=3.0 wt.%, wherein a part of the acid and the other are contained in a state left as a free acid and in a state of a salt, respectively. Therein, the acid is preferably anα-hydroxy acid such as glycolic acid. The treating agent is used by coating hair with the treating agent and then dyeing the hair with an acidic dye for hair, or by simultaneously coating the hair with treating agent and the acidic hair dye.
