A devotional and learning device (10) which includes an elongated housing (30), the housing having a scroll receiving cavity having, in turn, a pair of spindle receiving wells (50, 52) and a slot (46) disposed parallel to the long axis of the housing (30). The slot (46) interconnects the spindle receiving wells (50, 52) and each one of the spindle receiving wells has a bottom and a cylindrical side wall. A pair of spindles (26, 28) is provided, one being received for rotational movement within a first one of the scroll receiving wells and the other one being received for rotational movement within the other well. A scroll display window (30') for displaying seratim selected frames of a scroll (24) is located between the scroll receiving wells (50, 52). Friction producing means (526.4), mounted on at least one of the spindles (26, 28) provides resistance to rotational movement of the spindle in relation to the side wall of the spindle well.
