PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce power consumption and to improve display quality by simple constitution in the case of using the display device for a personal computer or a television receiver. SOLUTION: A plasma cell 1 is used as an electrostatic charge supplying cell, a current collecting electrode 8 is formed on a part of a discharge cell 5 independently of respective electrodes included in the cell 1, the electrode 8a is connected to an electrode 8b in a liquid crystal cell 2 to be a light modulating cell, and the cell 2 is driven by electrostatic charge generated by the cell 1. Since the electrode 8a is electrically disconnected from respective electrodes in the cell 1 when the cell 1 is not driven, a storage function is applied to the cell 1, so that display quality can be improved. |
