PURPOSE:To prepare a stably growable artificial tetraploid of a plant while preventing the damage with chemicals by treating an aseptically grown seedling with a plant growth hormone. CONSTITUTION:An aseptically grown seedling of e.g. Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni is immersed in a solution containing a plant growth hormone selected from kinetin, 6-benzylaminopurine, zeatin, 2-isopentenyladenine, etc., for example, a solution produced by adding the above plant growth hormone to an artifical liquid medium containing inorganic salts and a carbon source. A newly developed axillary bud is transplanted on a solid medium. |
