The roller probe has a measurement pole which is a rotating, rotationally symmetrical roller body (4) in direct contact with the surface of the measurement material (5). The roller body is pref. made of a dense material and can be a disc, roller or ball with a spherical roller surface. If the roller is made of soft material, its rolling surface is coated with a harder material. Markings, e.g. holes in the roller body allow magnetic or opto-electronic path measurement. USE/ADVANTAGE - For measurement of thicknesses of electrically conducting or non-conducting, magnetic or non-magnetic material web or film layers on carrier tape, e.g. plastics film or sheet metal tape. Measurement errors arising from air gaps between measurement pole and surface of measurement material are eliminated.
