A magnetic record-reproduce device using an endless magnetic recording medium. This device provides a time setting means carried by the cartridge and corresponding to a length of time within one cycle of movement of the recording medium, and detection means connected to said time setting means when the cartridge is fitted in operative position, said detecting means being adapted to provide a control signal in accordance with said time setting means when recording is effected on said magnetic recording medium, thereby detecting whether recordable condition is established.
